New access road to Parklands. 19th August 2009
by Tony Clarke
On a site visit Parklands this week, it was rewarding to see the first motorists using the new and most northern access road into Parklands.
This stretch of road will provide an additional link between the Parklands development and the West Coast Road (R27). The portion of road extends Sandown Road in an easterly direction, from opposite Builder's Warehouse in Sunningdale through to Wood Drive Extension in Parklands.
Wood Drive Extension provides a north-south access between Sandown Road and Parklands Main Road. Thus, the completion of this stretch of road provides greater mobility through the development and improves the access both to and from the West Coast Road. The illustration below shows the portion of road now completed.
The contract for this stretch of road was awarded during December 2008 with construction commencing in January this year.
The contract, for some R12½ Million Rand, is the second infrastructure commitment undertaken by the developers, The Milnerton Estates Aska Joint Venture, since additional development approvals for Parklands were granted just 18 months ago. The first undertaking by the developers was the R8½ Million Rand extension of Parklands Main Road from Gie Road - east towards the railway line.
Seen in the picture, this tarmac paver laid some 500 tons of tar on Monday and weather permitting - should complete the surfacing by the end of this week.
